Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Educational workshops have emerged as effective platforms for promoting event sustainability by fostering awareness, building capacity, and encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices. In Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, these workshops are increasingly integrated into event planning to address environmental, economic, and social sustainability challenges. Workshops on waste management, energy efficiency, and community engagement provide event organizers and stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to minimize environmental impact and enhance the overall sustainability of events. According to Bello and Yusuf (2023), educational workshops contribute to sustainable event management by bridging knowledge gaps and promoting collaborative approaches among stakeholders. Despite their potential, the role of educational workshops in promoting event sustainability in Ilorin East remains underexplored, particularly in terms of their effectiveness and long-term impact. This study assesses the role of educational workshops in promoting event sustainability, focusing on their contributions, challenges, and future opportunities.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While educational workshops are recognized as vital tools for promoting sustainability, their implementation in Ilorin East Local Government Area often faces challenges such as limited participation, inadequate funding, and lack of follow-up mechanisms. These issues hinder the ability of workshops to achieve their intended goals, leaving event organizers with insufficient knowledge and resources to implement sustainable practices. Although studies have examined sustainable event management, limited research focuses specifically on the role of educational workshops in Ilorin East (Abdullahi & Musa, 2024). This study addresses this gap by evaluating the contributions and challenges of educational workshops in promoting event sustainability.
